I’m not one of those rap fans who thinks that hip hop was better in the 90s and early 2000s. I think that’s ridiculous. Rap has become so unbelievably sophisticated over the last few decades.
Joey Bada$$ is a really interesting younger artist. He often deliberately bites an old school, late 90s style, but delivers it with the, state of the art, sophistication of today. It’s really fun for rap fans like myself.
I sometimes make pieces for myself, that I never release as prints because I don’t think there will be much interest from the public, they’re just fun and satisfying for myself. This was one of those times, but my assistant Attie encouraged me to share it anyway. It’s a fun take on another one of my pieces. In some sense it’s a rebuttal to Wutang and to my Cash Rules print. Hope you enjoy it.
