THE INSPIRATION BEHIND THE ART:

I didn’t pay much attention to Skee-lo when this song first came out. It was catchy and fun but my rap attention was elsewhere. I later learned he was associated with Myka 9 and Freestyle Fellowship so I gave his album a more serious listen. The whole album is really great! This song is pretty special, particularly because it came out when rap was almost always bluster. I Wish is self deprecating and funny and sincere. Listen to the song here.
