THE INSPIRATION BEHIND THE ART:
In Hinduism, Hanuman represents perfect self-control, strength, stamina, and devotion. Across Asia, many other monkey heroes and trickster figures appear in mythology, and many of their stories are connected to Hanuman’s legend.
The scene depicted here shows one of Hanuman’s most famous adventures. During a great battle, Hanuman fought alongside Rama and Lakshmana when Lakshmana was gravely injured. The only cure came from a specific medicinal plant that grew on a mountain in the Himalayas.
As the fastest among them, Hanuman was sent to retrieve the plant. But when he arrived, he found the mountain covered with countless herbs and couldn’t tell which one was the right remedy. With only moments left to save Lakshmana’s life, Hanuman lifted the entire mountain and carried it thousands of miles across India to the battlefield—thus saving his friend.
I love this story. Our team often says, “Let’s pull off the impossible,” when we take on big art projects or ambitious goals—and I always think of Hanuman in those moments.
