THE INSPIRATION BEHIND THE ART:
Memento Mori and Danse Macabre are themes that I love to draw from. These are very old art traditions that remind us that we will all die one day and that earthly pursuits of vanity and glory are very temporary. It’s not necessarily meant to be a negative or even somber thought exercise (although it certainly can be). In many cases it’s just meant to be a reminder to keep us on track. In the oldest traditions, it’s a mechanism that keeps our minds on higher spiritual matters because when we recognize that life is fleeting ,we focus on god and on other more permanent realms.
This piece is intended as a positive reminder. Life offers a lot of injuries, but in the end we’ll be alright.
