"These are one-of-a-kind, collaged works created entirely from my own prints and posters. Print Based Originals are the result of a layered and evolving process. Each piece begins with the fundamental act of drawing—good old-fashioned paper and pencil starts everything. I draw inspiration from a wide array of cultural and visual sources, including German Renaissance printmaking, Japanese ukiyo-e and samurai iconography, Aztec codices, 1970s comic books, European crests and icons, and even the face of my companionable, once-feral cat, Brenda. These drawings are then rendered in ink before being translated into prints through a variety of traditional and contemporary printmaking methods, including screen printing, relief, intaglio, museum-quality digital printing, and offset lithography. Once printed, the images are deconstructed—torn apart—and meticulously reassembled on wood panels using matte medium and acrylic paint, resulting in complex, textured compositions. Although many individual visual elements are repeated, each piece is entirely unique and presents a new narrative structure to contemplate. This technique is largely influenced by the methods of artists like Mimmo Rotella, Robert Rauschenberg, and Shepard Fairey. And I thank them for the inspiration.”
