THE INSPIRATION BEHIND THE ART:

Hanuman is the divine monkey god and devout companion to Rama.

In one of my favorite Hanuman stories, he and his comrades, Rama and Lakshmana were battling a fierce enemy when Lakshmana was struck with poison. The only remedy for the poison came from a plant that grew on a mountain thousands of miles away. Since Hanuman was the fastest and strongest, he left the battle straight away and traveled to retrieve the plant. But when he got there, he discovered that there were hundreds of different plants covering the mountain and he had no idea which one was the the right plant. There was no time to waste, so Hanuman picked up the whole mountain and brought it back to where Lakshmana was dying and saved his life.

I love that story.
